Admissions/Enrollment Requirements

Shear Excellence Hair Academy Inc. welcomes students who wish to pursue a Post-Secondary-Level program of study. The office of admissions works hard to make the admissions process easy. Students should apply for admission as soon as possible in order to be officially accepted for a specific program and starting date. To apply students should complete the Application Form and send it to the school, or call for a priority appointment to visit the school and receive a tour of its facilities.

All applicants are required to complete a personal interview with an admissions representative. Parents and spouses are encouraged to attend. This gives applicants and their families an opportunity to see the school’s equipment and facilities and to ask questions relating to the academy’s curriculum and career objectives. Personal interviews also enable school administrators to determine whether an applicant is acceptable for enrollment into the program.

Shear Excellence Hair Academy Inc. has the following admissions policy:

1. Applicants must have a high school diploma or G.E.D
2. Must be at least 16 years of age. This is in line with the Florida State Board of Cosmetology & Barber Board. The following are considered the equivalent of a high school diploma: a GED certificate, a certificate of completion of a home schooled high school program that is acceptable in the state of Florida, in which home schooling took place, and a self-certification by a student from a foreign country from which a high school transcript cannot be obtained due to current political conditions
3. An applicant requesting admission must have proof of completion of the twelfth grade, or take and entrance examination to attest to tenth-grade reading and math ability. The test is called Wonderlic ATB (Ability to Benefit) test. A student must achieve a verbal score of no less than 200 and a quantitative score of no less than 210 in the same test administration to pass. Although craftsmanship is not based on academic achievement, a student must have the ability to read orders and perform simple mathematical calculations. The entrance test is designed to evaluate those traits and aptitudes required for a successful career in Cosmetology, Nail Technology, or Restricted Barber.

Students who have previously attended the Academy will be subject to the same requirements and procedures as new applicants. A non-refundable $50.00 Application and a $100.00 Registration/Enrollment Fee is required at the time of formal enrollment. Once an applicant has completed and submitted the Application and Enrollment Agreement, the academy reviews the information and informs the applicant of its decision. If an applicant is not accepted, all fees paid to the academy are refunded.

Shear Excellence Hair Academy does not recruit students already attending or admitted to another school offering similar programs of study. This policy extends to all programs and activities involving or supported by the academy.
